TOTAL RETAIL - MONTHLY

The chart below shows the trend series and seasonally adjusted series to June 2014.

In current prices, the trend estimate for Australian turnover rose 0.1% in June 2014 following a rise of 0.1% in May 2014 and a rise of 0.1% in April 2014.

The seasonally adjusted estimate for Australian turnover rose 0.6% in June 2014 following a fall of 0.3% in May 2014 and a relatively unchanged (0.0%) April 2014.

The original estimate for Australian turnover fell 2.5% in June 2014. The original estimate for chains and other larger retailers fell 1.8% in June 2014. The original estimate for smaller retailers fell 3.8% in June 2014.

TOTAL RETAIL - QUARTERLY

In volume terms, the seasonally adjusted estimate for the June quarter 2014 fell 0.2% following a rise of 1.3% in the March quarter 2014 and a rise of 1.2% in the December quarter 2013.

In the June quarter 2014, the seasonally adjusted estimate fell in volume terms for Food retailing (-0.4%), Clothing, footwear and personal accessory retailing (-1.3%), Department stores (-0.7%) and Cafes, restaurants and takeaway food retailing (-0.2%). Other retailing (0.5%) and Household goods retailing (0.3%) rose in volume terms in the June quarter 2014.

The Implicit Price Deflator for Australian turnover rose 0.2% in seasonally adjusted terms in the June quarter 2014.


TOTAL RETAIL - BY STATE

The following states and territories rose in trend terms in June 2014: New South Wales (0.2%), Tasmania (0.2%), South Australia (0.1%) and the Northern Territory (0.4%). Victoria, Western Australia and Queensland were relatively unchanged (0.0%). The Australian Capital Territory (-0.6%) fell in trend terms in June 2014.

The following states and territories rose in seasonally adjusted terms in June 2014: New South Wales (0.9%), Victoria (0.6%), Western Australia (1.1%), South Australia (0.5%), Tasmania (1.3%) and the Northern Territory (0.3%). Queensland was relatively unchanged (0.0%). The Australian Capital Territory (-0.5%) fell in seasonally adjusted terms in June 2014.

In the June quarter 2014, the seasonally adjusted estimate fell in volume terms in the following states: Queensland (-0.7%), Western Australia (-0.7%), South Australia (-0.8%), Victoria (-0.1%) and the Australian Capital Territory (-1.5%). New South Wales (0.5%), Tasmania (0.8%) and the Northern Territory (0.5%) rose in volume terms in the June quarter 2014.
