The chart below shows the trend series and seasonally adjusted series to July 2010.

In current price trend terms, Australian turnover increased 0.4% in July 2010 following an increase of 0.4% in each of June and May 2010.

Cafes, restaurants and takeaway food services (1.5%) and Other retailing (0.4%) have had an increase in the trend for at least nine months. Clothing, footwear and personal accessory retailing (0.4%) has had an increase in the trend for six months. Food retailing (0.4%) and Household goods retailing (0.2%) increased in July 2010. Department stores (-0.4%) decreased for the sixth consecutive month in July 2010.

The following states and territories have had an increase in the trend estimate for at least thirteen months: Victoria (0.8%), the Northern Territory (0.2%) and South Australia (0.1%). New South Wales (0.6%) and Queensland (0.4%) increased in July 2010. Western Australia (-0.4%) and the Australian Capital Territory (-0.1%) decreased in July 2010.

In current price seasonally adjusted terms, Australian turnover increased 0.7% in July 2010 following revised increases of 0.4% in each of June and May 2010.

In current price original terms, chains and other larger retailers increased 4.7% in July 2010. The estimate for smaller retailers increased 4.3% in July 2010.
