The chart below shows the trend series and seasonally adjusted series to January 2013.

In current prices, the trend estimate for Australian turnover rose 0.1% in January 2013 following a relatively unchanged December 2012 (0.0%) and a relatively unchanged November 2012 (0.0%).

The seasonally adjusted estimate for Australian turnover rose 0.9% in January 2013 following a fall of 0.4% in December 2012 and a fall of 0.2% in November 2012.

The original estimate for Australian turnover fell 22.6% in January 2013. The original estimate for chains and other larger retailers fell 25.0% in January 2013. The original estimate for smaller retailers fell 17.8% in January 2013.

TOTAL RETAIL - BY STATE

The following states and territories rose in trend terms in January 2013: Queensland (0.3%), Victoria (0.1%), Tasmania (0.5%) and the Northern Territory (0.6%). Western Australia (0.0%) and New South Wales (0.0%) remained relatively unchanged. South Australia (-0.2%) and the Australian Capital Territory (-0.2%) fell in trend terms in January 2013.

The following states and territories rose in seasonally adjusted terms in January 2013: New South Wales (1.3%), Victoria (1.0%), Queensland (0.9%), Tasmania (1.4%), South Australia (0.4%), the Northern Territory (1.3%) and the Australian Capital Territory (0.8%). Western Australia (0.4%) fell in seasonally adjusted terms in January 2013.
