REPEAT OFFENDERS

During 2007-08, the majority (67%) of all offenders were proceeded against by police on one occasion. A further 19% were proceeded against by police on two separate occasions. Offenders proceeded against by police on five or more separate occasions during 2007-08 comprised over 3% (273 offenders) of all offenders.

There were more male offenders than female offenders who were proceeded against more than once during the reference period (36% compared to 23% respectively).

Male offenders aged 35-39 years were proceeded against on average 1.9 times per offender during the reference period, compared to 1.6 times for all offenders, which was the highest for any age group.
