Agricultural Production

Grains, wool and beef production, the main agricultural industries in the early days of Queensland's European settlement, remain important but have now been supplemented by a large range of other agricultural products, including sugar cane, cotton, nursery production, vegetables for human consumption and citrus and tropical fruits.

  • The main broadacre crops grown are sugar cane, grain sorghum and wheat.
  • The main livestock raised are cattle for beef production, sheep for meat and wool, and pigs.
  • The main fruit crops grown are bananas, pineapples and mandarins.
  • The main vegetable crops grown include potatoes, tomatoes, watermelons, lettuces and pumpkins.
