SEPTEMBER KEY POINTS

LIVESTOCK SLAUGHTERED

  • The trend estimate for cattle slaughterings decreased for the third consecutive month, to 665,000, and was 1% lower than the same time in the previous year.
  • The trend estimate for sheep slaughterings decreased for the third consecutive month, to 1.0 million, and was 8% higher than the same period last year.
  • The trend estimate for lamb slaughterings increased for the third consecutive month, to 1.6 million, and was down 11% compared to the same time last year.

MEAT PRODUCTION
  • The trend estimate for beef production decreased for the third consecutive month, to 177,000 tonnes, and was unchanged compared to the same period last year.
  • The trend estimate for mutton production decreased for the fifth consecutive month to 21,000 tonnes, however increased 4% compared to same time last year.
  • The trend estimate for lamb production increased for the second consecutive month, to 33,000 tonnes, and was down 16% on the previous year.
