Changes to Time Series Table 6 - "Exports of Live Sheep and Cattle: Original (tonnes)
The June Quarter 2012 release of this publication foreshadowed a change in the categories for the Exports of Live Sheep and Cattle table, to take effect from September Quarter 2012.
The effect of this is that numbers of sheep exported now includes sheep for breeding purposes whereas previously these had been excluded. This is a consequence of changes in international trade classifications which no longer provide separate categories for breeding and non-breeding sheep. This does not apply to cattle. The number of cattle exports shown in the time series continues to exclude cattle for breeding purposes.
Because of the changes in classification for sheep exports, the sheep numbers will differ slightly from those published in earlier releases. However, the series has been backcast to the beginning of the series in March Quarter 1988 in order to provide a consistent basis for comparison.
