Ag Mag | the agriculture newsletter

In June, the ABS Land & NRM Statistics Program, formerly a subsection of the Centre of Environment and Energy Statistics, combined with the Agriculture Statistics NSC to form the Land and Agriculture Section. All staff still come under the banner of the Environment and Agriculture Branch headed by Gemma Van Halderen.

This alignment between the agriculture and land statistics areas will greatly assist ABS clients as to obtain information, and discuss statistics relevant to the use and management of land by agricultural businesses, clients will now be able to deal with just one section of the ABS.

The Agriculture Subsection will continue to work on projects related to the collection and dissemination of agricultural statistics. Staff will also work with clients to better understand and meet user requirements for agricultural data.

The Land Subsection will, along with other tasks, conduct analysis of regional distribution of agricultural land not covered by current ABS collections, look at the feasibility of collecting NRM practice data from industries other than agriculture such as mining, and maintain a NRM question repository.

For more information about the Agriculture Subsection please contact Karen Connaughton (02) 6252 5337 or Jerralyn Wright (02) 6252 7734.

For more information about the Land Subsection please contact John Ovington on (02) 6252 6854.
