At 30 June 1975, some 38.5% of the population were aged less than 20 years. This compares with 26.9% who were aged less than 20 years at 30 June 2005. Conversely, from 1975 to 2005, the proportion of persons in older age groups has increased. At 30 June 1975, 8.6% of the population were aged 65 years and over. This compares with 14.5% at 30 June 2005.
