METHODS OF RECEIVING ORDERS VIA THE INTERNET OR WEB

Businesses which received orders via the Internet or web were asked to identify ways in which these orders were received. Businesses could identify more than one way of receiving orders.

Email not linked to website was the most common method of receiving orders via the Internet or web, at 66%, more than twice as likely as any other method.

Email not linked to website was the most commonly reported method of receiving orders over the Internet or web for the three smaller employment size groups; ranging from 61% for those businesses with 20-199 persons employed to 68% for those with 0-4 persons employed. Businesses with 200 or more employees were the most likely to use an online order form to receive orders (56%), at least double that of any other employment size group.

The types of methods used to receive orders via the Internet or web varied considerably across industries. For example, businesses in Retail trade were the most likely to have shopping cart facilities to receive orders (25%). Arts and recreation services which includes businesses involved in artistic exhibits and live performances, had the highest proportion of businesses with an online order form.
