NATIONAL ESTIMATES
Australia's unemployment rate increased by 0.1 percentage points to 6.0% in June 2014 (seasonally adjusted), following a revision to the May 2014 estimate. In trend terms the unemployment rate was steady at 5.9% in June 2014. The number of unemployed persons increased by 20,300 to 741,700 in June 2014 (seasonally adjusted), while in trend terms the number of unemployed persons in June 2014 increased by 1,100 to 728,500.
June 2014 saw the seasonally adjusted participation rate increase by 0.1 percentage points to 64.7%. The trend participation rate was unchanged at 64.7% in June 2014.
The seasonally adjusted number of employed persons increased by 15,900 in June 2014 to 11,578,200 persons. In trend terms, employment increased by 10,600 persons to 11,582,400 persons in June 2014. The employment to population ratio, which expresses the number of employed persons as a percentage of the civilian population aged 15 years and over, remained steady at 60.8% (seasonally adjusted). The trend employment to population ratio remained steady at 60.9%.

Seasonally adjusted full-time employment decreased by 3,800 persons to 8,062,500 persons while part-time employment increased by 19,700 persons in June 2014 to 3,515,700 persons. The increase in total employment resulted from:
- an increase in male part-time employment, up 15,000 persons
- an increase in female full-time employment, up 6,700 persons
- an increase in female part-time employment, up 4,800 persons
- a decrease in male full-time employment, down 10,500 persons.
Seasonally adjusted aggregate monthly hours worked increased by 15.1 million hours (0.9%) in June 2014 to 1,629.1 million hours.
STATE ESTIMATES
The largest absolute increases in seasonally adjusted employment were in New South Wales (up 10,000 persons), South Australia (up 5,800 persons) and Western Australia (up 5,200 persons). The largest absolute decrease in seasonally adjusted employment was in Victoria (down 15,300 persons). Seasonally adjusted estimates are not published for the territories.
