UNEMPLOYMENT RATE BY STATES TREND ESTIMATES


NEW SOUTH WALES

The trend estimate of the unemployment rate for New South Wales generally fell from 5.9% in June 2001 to 4.5% in March 2008. The trend then rose to 6.4% in April 2009, before falling to 4.9% in January 2011. The trend has since risen to 5.1% in June 2011.

VICTORIA

The trend estimate of the unemployment rate for Victoria generally fell from 6.4% in June 2001 to 4.4% in April 2008, before rising to 6.0% in June 2009. The trend has since generally fallen to 4.7% in June 2011.

QUEENSLAND

The trend estimate of the unemployment rate for Queensland generally fell from 8.5% in June 2001 to 3.6% in June 2007, before rising to 6.0% in October 2009. The trend then fell to 5.4% in July 2010, before rising to 5.6% in December 2010. The trend has since fallen to 5.2% in June 2011.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA

The trend estimate of the unemployment rate for South Australia generally fell from 7.5% in June 2001 to 4.7% in February 2008, before rising to 5.7% in February 2009. The trend then fell to 5.2% in January 2010, before rising to 5.6% in December 2010. The trend has since fallen to 5.3% in June 2011.

WESTERN AUSTRALIA

The trend estimate of the unemployment rate for Western Australia generally fell from 7.4% in June 2001 to 2.7% in September 2008, before rising to 5.5% in July 2009. The trend then fell to 4.3% in July 2010, before rising to 4.5% in October 2010. The trend has since fallen to 4.2% in June 2011.

TASMANIA

The trend estimate of the unemployment rate for Tasmania generally fell from 9.2% in June 2001 to 4.0% in July 2008, before rising to 6.2% in May 2010. The trend then fell to 5.5% in October 2010, before rising to 5.7% in February 2011. The trend has since fallen to 5.6% in June 2011.

NORTHERN TERRITORY

The trend estimate of the unemployment rate for Northern Territory generally fell from 6.9% in June 2001 to 2.8% in December 2006, before rising to 5.0% in November 2007. The trend then fell to 2.9% in July 2008, before rising to 4.1% in June 2009. The trend then fell to 2.4% in January 2011 and has since risen to 3.7% in June 2011.

AUSTRALIAN CAPITAL TERRITORY

The trend estimate of the unemployment rate for Australian Capital Territory generally fell from 5.6% in June 2001 to 2.5% in December 2008, before rising to 3.8% in November 2009. The trend then fell to 3.1% in August 2010. The trend has since risen to 4.0% in June 2011.
