REVISIONS

Revisions have been made to incorporate the latest data relating to international trade in goods and services since the last issue of this publication:

  • on an international merchandise trade basis, exports and imports have been revised back to September 2013
  • on a balance of payments basis revisions have been applied to:
      • goods credits back to August 2012
      • goods debits back to December 2012
      • services credits back to September 2012
      • services debits back to July 2012.

Table 17 summarises revisions to goods and services on a balance of payments basis, in original current price terms, since the last issue of this publication. In original terms, the revisions have:
  • increased the deficit on goods and services for 2012-13 by $1,089m
  • increased the deficit on goods and services for the eight months to February 2014 by $1,159m.

Travel Services Debits have been revised back to July 2012, resulting from upward revisions to per capita outbound traveller expenditure. This data is sourced from the National Visitor Survey conducted by Tourism Research Australia which did not contain all the relevant expenditure items following changes to processing systems. These revisions will also have an impact on April, May and June 2012 travel services debits but will be reflected in ABS data in accordance with our revisions policy. Further revisions can be expected to the National Visitor Survey in the future as revisions to the Overseas Arrivals and Departures data recently provided by the ABS are incorporated.
