2016 CENSUS OF POPULATION AND HOUSING PUBLIC CONSULTATION

Planning for the 2016 Census of Population and Housing is well underway, and the ABS is inviting you to have your say.

The ABS is reviewing the 2016 Census content and field procedures to ensure that the Census, and data collected, remains relevant in today’s society and continues to uphold its proud history of providing timely, high quality and relevant data for small geographic areas and population groups.

The public consultation process began in November 2012 with a series of public information sessions held around the country.

The ABS has also released a publication Census of Population and Housing: Consultation on Content and Procedures, 2016 (cat. no. 2007.0) which outlines initial ABS views on topics and procedures to be included and reviewed for the 2016 Census.

Interested parties are invited to review the publication, which includes submission guidelines and criteria. Submissions can be made online via the online submission form on the ABS website, or by downloading or requesting a paper form.

The topic consultation process closes on Friday, 31 May 2013. The ABS will assess all submissions received against the established criteria and make recommendations to the Government in mid-2014. The content of the Census is expected to be finalised by late 2014.

For more information on the 2016 Census public consultation process, or to lodge a submission, visit www.abs.gov.au/census or call ABS National Information and Referral Service on 1300 135 070.
