Information Paper: Measuring Learning in Australia: Concepts and Directions in Early Childhood Learning, 2007 (cat. no. 4232.0)

This paper will outline a project to develop quality statistics in early childhood learning, focusing on children aged 0 to 8 years. The paper will propose a suite of ideal early childhood learning measures and data development activities which would be needed in order to provide relevant and quality data for comparable analysis across states and territories. Descriptions and evaluations of currently reported indicators and data collections will be included as well as examples of data. The paper will provide an opportunity for input and further discussion among researchers and the community.

Education and Work, Australia, 2007 (cat. no. 6227.0)

This publication will provide selected information on participation in education, highest educational attainment, transition from education to work and current labour force and demographic characteristics for the civilian population aged 15-64 years. Characteristics include: type of educational institution attended or attending; level and main field of education of current study and highest level and main field of educational attainment. Information on unsuccessful enrolment, and deferment of study, is included for persons not studying in the survey year. Data on apprenticeships are also provided.

How Australians Use Their Time, 2006 (cat. no. 4153.0)

This publication will present findings on time use in Australia and how this has changed. It will focus on how various groups in society allocate their time, showing changes through lifecycle stages. Key groups include youth, students, parents, women, people with disabilities and the elderly. Insight will be provided into issues such as unpaid work, paid work, family caring and time spent on education and leisure. The impact that technology and time saving services have on our lives will also be examined.

Schools, Australia, 2007 (cat. no. 4221.0)

This publication will present statistics on schools, students and teaching staff involved in the provision or administration of primary and secondary education, in government and non-government schools for all states and territories. Schools are classified by level of education (primary, secondary) and category (government, non-government); non-government affiliation (Catholic/Independent). Students are classified by level and year of education, full-time/part-time, age, sex and category of school attended; teaching staff are classified by level of school education, category of school and sex. Publication will also include apparent retention rates for students, plus student/teaching staff ratios, school age participation rates and some information on indigenous students. Some of the statistical tables are presented in time series format.
