Wheat is grown mainly in the western and north western areas of Victoria, with the greatest production from the Wimmera and Mallee Statistical Divisions (SDs). In 2002-03, production was considerably reduced due to drought conditions (890,200 tonnes).

In 2002-03, 28% of all wheat produced in Victoria came from the Wimmera SD (246,700 tonnes). This was followed by the Mallee SD, also with 28% (245,500 tonnes).
