South Australia is a major grain grower, accounting for more barley production than any other state. It also has the largest vineyard area and greatest grape production of any state and the second largest citrus industry. Apple growing is the principal non-citrus fruit industry of South Australia and is concentrated in the Adelaide Hills. The main vegetable crops grown include potatoes, onions and carrots. Pastoral activities, particularly sheep grazing, are widespread in South Australia under varying climatic conditions, from arid saltbush plains in the far north through to lush, well-watered pastures in the south east.
