SHORT-TERM VISITOR ARRIVALS

In trend terms, short-term visitor arrivals to Australia during November 2017 (759,100 movements) increased 0.4% when compared with October 2017 (755,900 movements). Currently, short-term visitor arrivals are 7.2% higher than in November 2016.

The following table presents the top ten source countries (based on original estimates) for short-term visitor arrivals during November 2017. When trend estimates for short-term visitor arrivals for November 2016 and November 2017 were compared, the highest percentage increases were recorded for Hong Kong (20.7%), followed by India (19.6%), and South Korea (16.1%).

SHORT-TERM RESIDENT RETURNS

In trend terms, short-term resident returns to Australia during November 2017 (889,500 movements) increased 0.3% when compared with October 2017 (887,000 movements). Currently, short-term resident returns are 4.7% higher than in November 2016.

The following table presents the top ten destination countries (based on original estimates) for short-term resident returns in November 2017. When trend estimates for short-term resident returns for November 2016 and November 2017 were compared, the highest percentage increases were recorded for Japan (14.5%), followed by India (13.1%), and China (11.5%).The highest percentage decreases were recorded for Indonesia (-5.8%), Fiji (-5.1%) and the United States (-4.8%).
