SHORT-TERM VISITOR ARRIVALS

In trend terms, short-term visitor arrivals to Australia during February 2018 (752,700 movements) remained steady at 0.0% when compared with January 2018 (752,600 movements). Currently, short-term visitor arrivals are 4.8% higher than in February 2017.

The following table presents the top ten source countries (based on original estimates) for short-term visitor arrivals during February 2018. When trend estimates for short-term visitor arrivals for February 2017 and February 2018 were compared, the highest percentage increases were recorded for India (19.3%), followed by the United States (10.3%) and Hong Kong (7.4%). The highest percentage decreases were recorded for Malaysia (-9.4%), Singapore (-5.2%) and South Korea (-0.2%).

In trend terms, short-term resident returns to Australia during February 2018 (883,300 movements) decreased 0.1% when compared with January 2018 (884,400 movements). Currently, short-term resident returns are 1.1% higher than in February 2017.

When trend estimates for short-term resident returns for February 2017 and February 2018 were compared, the highest percentage increases were recorded for Vietnam (23.0%), followed by Japan (13.1%) and India (12.7%).The highest percentage decreases were recorded for Indonesia (-5.6%), Singapore (-5.0%) and New Zealand (-2.5%).
