DECEMBER KEY POINTS


SHORT-TERM VISITOR ARRIVALS TO AUSTRALIA
  • Trend estimates: Short-term visitor arrivals during December 2011 (505,000 movements) increased 0.3% compared with November 2011 (503,600 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.6% in October 2011 and 0.4% in November 2011. The current trend estimate for arrivals is 1.4% higher than in December 2010.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: During December 2011, short-term visitor arrivals (502,000 movements) recorded an increase of 0.1% compared with November 2011 (501,500 movements). This followed a monthly increase of 4.8% in October 2011 and a decrease of 0.7% in November 2011.
  • Original estimates: There were 673,600 short-term visitor arrivals to Australia in December 2011.


SHORT-TERM RESIDENT DEPARTURES FROM AUSTRALIA
  • Trend estimates: Short-term resident departures during December 2011 (651,200 movements) decreased 0.2% compared with November 2011 (652,300 movements). This followed monthly decreases of 0.2% in October 2011 and 0.1% in November 2011. The current trend estimate for departures is 7.2% higher than in December 2010.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: During December 2011, short-term resident departures (652,700 movements) increased 0.9% compared with November 2011 (646,700 movements). This followed monthly decreases of 1.3% in October 2011 and 0.9% in November 2011.
  • Original estimates: There were 864,200 short-term resident departures from Australia during December 2011.
