CHANGES IN THIS ISSUE
Population estimates for major population regions in table 5 have been updated to 30 June 2010.
ESTIMATED RESIDENT POPULATION STATUS
ERP data for 30 September 2001 to 30 June 2006 are final and based on the 2006 Census of Population and Housing. Data from September quarter 2006 to June quarter 2009 have been revised and data from September quarter 2009 onwards are preliminary. Revisions to estimated resident population (ERP) occur six-monthly. For further information see paragraph 7 of the Explanatory Notes.
Due to the collection and estimation methods applied to produce preliminary statistics, users should exercise caution when analysing and interpreting the most recent annual and quarterly estimates for all components of the ERP, particularly when making time series comparisons.
POPULATION BY AGE AND SEX
Spreadsheets released with this publication on the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) website now include population estimates by age and sex, and other associated data which have previously been published in Population by Age and Sex, Australian States and Territories (cat. no. 3201.0). As a result, the production of Population by Age and Sex, Australian States and Territories (cat. no. 3201.0) ceased following the release of June quarter 2010 data (released 21 December 2010).
Population by Age and Sex, Regions of Australia, 2010 (cat. no. 3235.0) - scheduled for release 4 August 2011.
Overseas Arrivals and Departures, Australia (cat. no. 3401.0) - scheduled for release 6 July 2011.
Information Paper: Measuring Net Undercount in the 2011 Population Census, 2011 (cat. no. 2940.0.55.001) - scheduled for release 6 July 2011.
