1. Estimated resident population (ERP) data contained in Tables 1, 2 and 4 for the recent intercensal period (September quarter 2001 to June quarter 2006) have been updated using information from the 2006 Census of Population and Housing (2006 Census).

2. Net overseas migration (NOM) estimates in Tables 1 and 2 contain a break in time series. Estimates for September quarter 2006 onwards use an improved methodology and are not comparable with NOM estimates from earlier periods – see paragraph 1 of the Technical Note.

3. Births and deaths data for the December quarter 2006 have been adjusted to include updated registrations over the three previous 2006 quarters (March, June and September). Therefore, any data used for analysis from births, deaths, natural increase or total growth for the December quarter 2006 should be used with caution. For further detail see paragraphs 11–17 of the Explanatory Notes.

4. A new methodology has been proposed for annual household estimates and is currently being addressed. In the interim, Tables 17, 18 and 19 have been replaced with household projections (now Tables 18 and 19 in the publication). For further information about household projections, see Household and Family Projections, Australia, 2001 to 2026 (cat. no. 3236.0).
