At 30 June 2003, the Victorian milk cattle herd stood at 1.9 million, with the highest numbers in the Western District and Goulburn Statistical Divisions.

At 30 June 2003, most milk cattle in Victoria were found in the Western District Statistical Division (485,400). This was followed by the Goulburn Statistical Division with 461,300 and the Gippsland Statistical Division with 401,400.
