LAND MANAGEMENT: EUROBODALLA SHIRE NSW

The new publication Land Management: Eurobodalla Shire, NSW (cat. no. 4651.0) presents results from a Land Management Survey conducted in the Eurobodalla Shire in late 2004. This survey was the first to make use of a new spatial, land-based area framework for natural resource management surveys. This methodology differs from traditional ABS survey methodologies in that it is the spatial land parcel rather than the business unit that forms the statistical unit. The land parcel methodology enables the mapping of small area statistics at a finer level than previously available.

The survey collected data on various aspects of land management including: land use; land and soil condition; water availability and quality; the extent of native vegetation, weeds and pests; and barriers to improved management practices. A further test of the new methodology is continuing in the Fitzroy catchment in Queensland. The results will be released early in 2006.
