2001 CENSUS

The 2001 edition of the publication Census of Population and Housing: Selected Social and Housing Characteristics for Statistical Local Areas, New South Wales and Jervis Bay (Cat. no. 2015.1) is expected to be released on 12 September 2002. It contains population counts and selected person, family and dwelling characteristics for all Statistical Local Areas, Statistical Subdivisions and Statistical Divisions within NSW and Jervis Bay; ranking tables; commentary and comparisons; Usual Residence counts; selected 1996 Census data for comparison; the first release Basic Community Profile (BCP) at state level; and reference maps. The first release of CDATA 2001 is expected on 26 September 2002. CDATA 2001 is a CD-ROM product which provides a large volume of Census small area data (from Collection District level) combined with digital geographic boundaries and location based data (using MapInfo). New for the 2001 Census, users now have the choice of two CDATA 2001 product options which offer different levels of functionality and flexible pricing. The 2001 Census second release variables for customised data will be available from 4 September 2002, excluding Journey to Work hierarchies which will be available for dissemination from 16 September. The standard Basic Community Profile (BCP) and the Indigenous Profile (IP) will be available from 19 November 2002. Free BCPs are available to the Statistical Local Area level and free IPs are available to the Indigenous Area level on the ABS Web Site at www.abs.gov.au. The Economic and Population Statistics Unit is continuing to undertake a series of presentations on the 2001 Census for NSW Government agencies, tailored to their particular interests. Each presentation contains a general overview of the Census, looks at data of interest to the agency and covers the ABS suite of Census products and services, in particular those available on the ABS Web Site.
