LIVESTOCK

Livestock slaughtering monthly trend movements for October 2014:
  • The number of cattle slaughtered was 790,000 head, an increase of 1%
  • The number of calves slaughtered was 53,400 head, a decrease of 1%
  • The number of sheep slaughtered remained steady at 817,000 head
  • The number of lambs slaughtered was 1.9 million head, an increase of 1%
  • The number of pigs slaughtered remained steady at 409,000 head

  • Beef production was 219,000 tonnes, an increase of 1%
  • Veal production remained steady at 3,400 tonnes
  • Mutton production was 19,600 tonnes, an increase of 1%
  • Lamb production was 43,000 tonnes, an increase of 1%
  • Pig meat production remained steady at 30,700 tonnes
