DECEMBER KEY POINTS

Livestock and meat slaughter monthly trend movements for December 2017:
  • Cattle slaughter decreased by 4,780 head (or 0.8%) for the month ending December 2017 compared with the previous month and increased by 4,050 head (or 0.7%) year-on-year.
  • Calf slaughter decreased by 1,840 head (or 5.3%) for the month ending December 2017 compared with the previous month and decreased by 1,690 head (or 4.9%) year-on-year.
  • Sheep slaughter decreased by 8,770 head (or 1.3%) for the month ending December 2017 compared with the previous month but increased by 140,330 head (or 26.2%) year-on-year.
  • Lamb slaughter decreased by 5,760 head (or 0.3%) for the month ending December 2017 compared with the previous month and decreased by 60,900 head (or 3.1%) year-on-year.
  • Pig slaughter decreased by 640 head for the month ending December 2017 compared with the previous month and increased by 21,260 head (or 5.0%) year-on-year.
