MARCH KEY POINTS


TOTAL HOURLY RATES OF PAY EXCLUDING BONUSES

QUARTERLY CHANGE (DEC QTR 2018 TO MAR QTR 2019)
  • The seasonally adjusted index for Australia rose 0.5% in the March quarter 2019 and the trend index rose 0.6%.
  • In seasonally adjusted terms, the Private sector wage price index rose 0.5% and the Public sector index rose 0.4%.
  • The highest index rise at an industry level (in original terms) was recorded in Transport, postal and warehousing and Education and training (0.7%). Seven industries recorded the same lowest quarterly rate of wage growth of 0.2%.


ANNUAL CHANGE (MAR QTR 2018 TO MAR QTR 2019)
  • The trend and seasonally adjusted indexes for Australia both rose 2.3% through the year to the March quarter 2019, for the third consecutive quarter.
  • In original terms, rises through the year to March quarter 2019 at the industry level ranged from 1.8% for Construction and Information media and telecommunication services to 3.0% for Health care and social assistance.
