REVISIONS IN THIS ISSUE
The estimates in this issue incorporate the 2010-11 annual supply and use tables. For information on the role of supply and use tables in the national accounts and the major revisions please see the 'Analysis of Results' section in Australian System of National Accounts (ABS cat. no. 5204.0). This includes revisions to financial intermediation services indirectly measured back to 2002-03. There are also revisions to the estimates arising from the introduction of the 2010-11 benchmarks, new data and and concurrent seasonal adjustment.
EMISSIONS REDUCTION SCHEME
On 1 July 2012, the Australian Government introduced a $23 per tonne carbon price on greenhouse emissions, to be paid directly by Australia's largest greenhouse gas emitting companies, together with compensation and incentive packages.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) released an Information Paper: Recording emissions reduction schemes in ABS statistics (cat. no. 5257.0.55.001) on 30 July 2012. This information paper summarises the nature of emissions permits measures introduced under the Clean Energy Act 2011, and how the ABS expects to include estimates of various carbon credit schemes in economic and environment statistics, commencing with the September quarter 2012.
This issue incorporates the Emissions reduction scheme along with Renewable Energy Certificates, which are discussed in more detail in the 'Analysis of Results' section in Australian System of National Accounts (ABS cat. no. 5204.0).
