SHORT-TERM VISITOR ARRIVALS
  • Trend estimates: Short-term visitor arrivals to Australia during March 2009 (472,100 movements), rose 0.9% compared with February 2009 (467,800 movements). This followed monthly increases of 1.0% each in January and February 2009.
  • Currently, trend estimates for arrivals are 0.7% higher than in March 2008.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: During March 2009, arrivals (473,600 movements) decreased by 1.0% compared with February 2009 (478,600 movements). This followed a monthly decrease of 3.1% for January 2009 and a monthly increase of 6.1% for February 2009.
  • Original estimates: There were 488,600 arrivals to Australia in March 2009.


SHORT-TERM RESIDENT DEPARTURES
  • Trend estimates: Short-term resident departures from Australia during March 2009 (469,700 movements), recorded a decrease of 0.5% compared with February 2009 (471,900 movements). This followed monthly decreases of 0.7% in January and 0.6% in February 2009.
  • Currently, trend estimates for departures are 2.4% lower than in March 2008.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: During March 2009, departures (464,900 movements) decreased by 2.5% compared with February 2009 (477,000 movements). This followed a monthly decrease of 5.7% for January 2009 and a monthly increase of 3.5% for February 2009.
  • Original estimates: There were 430,100 departures from Australia during March 2009.
