Purpose

To provide statistical input to the development and evaluation of training policies. Results were also used to assist in evaluating changes in the training arena.

Description

The Training Expenditure Survey collects information on employers' expenditure in providing structured training for their employees. The survey has a three month reference period and data are collected by mail questionnaire. The 1996 survey included approximately 6,000 employers Australia-wide, stratified by sector, industry and employer size.

The 1996 survey collected information on training expenditure from employers who actually provided structured training to their employees in the three-month reference period 1 July to 30 September 1996. This differs from previous TESs where training costs were collected even if there was no structured training provided in the reference period.
