Updates to ABS Directories: Transport


The Australian Bureau of Statistics would like to keep all Directories as up to-date as possible.

The Transport Directory is about collections and other sources of statistics relevant to transport in Australia. Anyone operating (or knowing someone who operates) a repository of information of a statistical nature about Australian Transport is invited to make a new entry for inclusion in the Directory. Anyone who would like to amend existing details, or remove an entry from the Directory, is also invited to make contact to give details of such amendments.

Note: The ABS will not charge a fee for inclusion of entries in the Directory, nor will it pay for contributions. Entries will be included at the discretion of the ABS.

    COLLECTION DETAILS
          1. Name of statistical collection (eg Survey of Motor Vehicle Usage, Road Fatality Statistics):

          3. Description and Method General description of collection: (eg the SMVU was redeveloped by the ABS from August 1997 as an ongoing quarterly survey covering all registered vehicle types . A new methodology has replaced the revious 'total recall' method of obtaining usage data. Approximately 5,000 vehicles are selected each quarter and estimation is based on a stratified random sample of vehicles. Road fatality statistics are compiled by the Federal Office of Road Safety from various road traffic and police authorities. They include any deaths occurring within 30 days from injuries received in the crash.):
