PERSON VICTIM CHARACTERISTICS

Sex and Age

Offences with a higher proportion of male victims were murder (67% or 171 victims), attempted murder (71% or 114 victims), robbery (71% or 7,584 victims), and blackmail/extortion (71% or 301 victims). Offences with a higher proportion of female victims were sexual assault (83% or 15,137 victims) and kidnapping/abduction (57% or 366 victims).

During 2012, 25% (64) of victims of murder were aged between 25 and 34 years, with a further 21% (54) of victims aged 55 years and over. Almost half of sexual assault victims in 2012 were aged between 10 and 19 years (48% or 8,672 victims). Of robbery victims in 2012, 45% (4,758) were aged between 20 and 34 years.
