Purpose
To provide the Government with current, objective, reliable and timely petroleum data. The information is used for policy formulation, administration, analysis and monitoring.

Description
Australian Petroleum Statistics is designed to meet the demand for information on production, refining, sales, trade and stocks of petroleum on a monthly basis.

Data are obtained from the Australian petroleum industry (which includes production, refining and oil trading) by mail questionnaire, and from ABS and IEA publications.

Data Detail
The data set covers the supply and demand chain:

  • Production of oil, condensate and gas;
  • Refinery production of petroleum products from liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to bitumen;
  • Demand for products and analysis of end-use (such as leaded/unleaded petrol split);
  • Trade in petroleum; and
  • Stock levels of refinery feedstocks and essential petroleum products including road and air transport fuel.

Prices of petroleum products in other countries and various economic indicators (e.g. CPI petrol price movements) are also available.
