Businesses were asked to identify their main type of internet connection, as at 30 June 2012. The ABS defines broadband as an 'always on' internet connection with an access speed equal to or greater than 256kbps.

Of those businesses with internet access, the proportion that reported broadband as their main type of internet connection was 99%.This remained steady between 2010-11 and 2011-12.

In almost a third of industries, all businesses with internet access reported that broadband was their main type of internet connection. As at 30 June 2012, businesses in Agriculture, forestry and fishing and Retail trade were the least likely to have broadband as their main type of internet connection (98%).
