This group covers R&D directed towards improving the operation, maintenance and protection (including forest fire fighting and control) of native forests, softwood and hardwood plantations. It includes harvesting and transportation of wood and other forest products from forests and plantations and the integration of farm and forestry.
This group has six objectives:

Exclusions:
a) Management of environmental impacts from forestry is included in Group 8298 Environmentally Sustainable Plant Production.
b) Processing or manufacture of wood, wood and paper products other than prefabricated wooden buildings or wooden furniture is included in Group 8605 Wood, Wood Products and Paper.
c) Manufacture of prefabricated wooden buildings and wooden furniture is included in Group 8699 Other Manufacturing.
d) Forest fires that do not affect forestry or other agricultural production are included in Group 9610 Natural Hazards.
