Apples are the most important fruit crop in Tasmania. In 2006-07, Tasmanian farmers produced 28,500 tonnes of apples.

The four most common varieties of apples produced in Tasmania in 2006-07 were:

  • Fuji (4,800 tonnes)
  • Gala (4,200 tonnes)
  • Delicious - striped red (4,000 tonnes)
  • Delicious - block red (3,800 tonnes)
In 2006-07, almost 69% of all apples produced in Tasmania came from the Southern Statistical Division (19,600 tonnes).

Data for 2006-07 indicate there were 1,200 hectares of bearing vines in Tasmania with a further 200 hectares planted but not yet bearing fruit. A total of 5,100 tonnes of grapes were produced and all were grown for winemaking.

Three varieties of grape accounted for 79% of all production: Pinot (2,327 tonnes), Chardonnay (1,136 tonnes) and Riesling (512 tonnes).
