In 2012-13:
  • Around 46,500 agricultural businesses prepared 20.5 million hectares of land for crops and/or pasture. Approximately 70% of this prepared land (14.3 million hectares) was not cultivated.
  • About 25,700 businesses reported that they undertook one or two cultivations on some of their land when preparing land for crops and/or pasture, accounting for 5.2 million hectares of land prepared for crops and/or pasture.
  • Approximately 8,310 businesses reported undertaking three or more cultivations on some of their land in preparation for crops and/or pasture.
  • The proportion of prepared land in each state undergoing no cultivations, 1 or 2 cultivations and 3 or more cultivations is illustrated in the graph below.
