PREFACE: POLICY CONTEXT - PLANNING

Long-term plans for regions and cities are important for shaping public and private investment in infrastructure and services, in order to support local communities. Water and energy are vital elements of household service provision, and understanding how they are used and how they can be used more efficiently will assist utilities and planners to keep costs down, prolong the life of their assets and better provide for future sustainability.

Household Water and Energy Use, Victoria, 2011 provides an understanding of how households are managing their energy and water use, and of the differences in household usage, storage and generation capabilities between metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria. The survey results provide valuable information to assist planners and service providers in Victoria.
