Purpose
To provide vehicle registration and driver statistics for New South Wales.

Description
Vehicle and driver statistics are compiled by the Research Unit of the Registration Policy Section of the RTA. Statistics are compiled from the DRIVES registration database and are based on a census of about four million NSW vehicle and driver records.

Data Detail

  • Vehicle type by region;
  • Fuel type;
  • Vehicle use (e.g. business, private);
  • Vehicle make;
  • New and second hand registrations;
  • Stolen vehicle counts;
  • Licences by class;
  • Licences by age and gender of holder;
  • Vehicles by age and gender of operator;
  • Greenslip (Compulsory third party insurance) statistics;
  • Vehicle age in years; and
  • Number of driving tests.

Geographic Coverage
New South Wales, Local Government Areas and post codes.

Frequency of Data Availability
Data are collected monthly. Quarterly and annual reports are produced.

Historical Data
Annual data are available from 1993 for registration statistics and from 1995 for licensing statistics.

Data through electronic delivery and floppy disk are available on request. There is no charge for provision of data which are readily available. More complex requests will be charged for.
