CENSUS UPDATES

New Australian Census Longitudinal Dataset

The first issue of the Australian Census Longitudinal Dataset (ACLD) brings together data from the 2006 and 2011 Censuses.

The ACLD was created by bringing together common characteristics of people from both Censuses, such as age, sex, geographic region and country of birth, without using names and addresses. Additional waves will be added to the ACLD following future Censuses. The ACLD is the culmination of more than ten years work and public consultation. It will give researchers and policy makers access to an unprecedented data source about Australia's population. The ACLD will provide new insights into the dynamics that drive social and economic change. It is a great research tool for exploring how Australian society is changing over time, particularly in the context of different population groups.

Microdata: Australian Census Longitudinal Dataset (cat. no. 2080.0) contains information about registration, pricing and access to the ACLD, as well as details about data items contained in the dataset. Purchasing and access is through the Registration Centre. Please note that the ACLD is accessed using the standard ABS TableBuilder login (not Census TableBuilder Basic & Pro login).

The Australians' journeys through life: Stories from the Australian Census Longitudinal Dataset is a series of articles analysing and demonstrating the ACLD and gives just a small glimpse of the type and range of information that the ACLD can provide.

The Information Paper: Australian Census Longitudinal Dataset, Methodology and Quality Assessment (cat. no. 2080.5) contains information on linkage processes as well as quality estimates.
