PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

ABS Census Geographic Areas were created so that data for the Census of Population and Housing could be made available for commonly used geographic areas other than those found in the Australian Standard Geographical Classification (ASGC).

This CD-ROM product contains Census Geographic Areas digital boundaries for census years 1981, 1986, 1991 and 1996.

1986Census Collection Districts (CCD), State Suburbs (SSC), State Electoral Division (SED), Commonwealth Electoral Division (CED) and Post Code Area (POC)
1991Census Collection Districts (CCD), State Suburbs (SSC), State Electoral Division (SED) and Commonwealth Electoral Division (CED) and Census Collectors District Derived Postcode (POC)
1996Census Collection Districts (CCD), State Suburbs (SSC), State Electoral Division (SED) and Commonwealth Electoral Division (CED), Postal Area (POA), Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission (ATSIC) Region (AREG), Indigenous Area (IARE) and Indigenous Location (ILOC)

The digital boundaries are supplied in MapInfo Interchange format (.mid/mif) and are based upon the Geocentric Datum of Australia (GDA94).

The product Census of Population and Housing: Census Geographic Areas Digital Boundaries, Australia (cat. no. 2923.0.30.001) contains digital boundaries for Census 2001 and Census 2006.
