This group covers R&D directed towards improving the characteristics and growing of summer grains and oilseeds, including cereals grown either partially or entirely for use as fodder or feed grain.
This group has six objectives:

820401 Maize
820402 Rice
820403 Safflower Seed
820404 Sorghum
820405 Soybeans
820499 Summer Grains and Oilseeds not elsewhere classified

Exclusions:
a) Harvesting and packing of unprocessed grains and oilseeds is included in Group 8206 Harvesting and Packing of Plant Products.
b) Management of environmental impacts from production of summer grains and oilseeds is included in Group 8298 Environmentally Sustainable Plant Production.
c) Manufacture of processed products from these plants is included in Division 86 Manufacturing.
d) Operation of irrigation systems is included in Group 9004 Water and Waste Services.
