This publication contains minor revisions to the coding and terminology aspects of the existing Indigenous Status standard. The purpose of the Indigenous Status standard is to enable the provision of consistent information from both statistical and administrative sources about people who identify as being of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander origin. The standard can be used when collecting and disseminating data on a wide range of topics including births, deaths, hospital admissions, employment, education and crime and justice. It can be used by ABS collections and other organisations which collect and/or disseminate data for statistical or administrative purposes.
