CANCER (C00-D48)

Cancer (C00-D48) was the underlying cause of one in five (508 or 21.3%) deaths of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander persons, with a rate ratio of 1.5 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander deaths compared with non-Indigenous deaths (270.2 per 100,000 and 174.6 deaths per 100,000).

Trachea, bronchus and lung cancers (C33-C34) were the fourth leading cause of death of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians in 2011 with 128 deaths. The sex ratio for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians who died from Trachea, bronchus and lung cancers (C33-C34) in 2011 was 110 males per 100 females. The Trachea, bronchus and lung cancers (C33-C34) rate ratio for deaths of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders compared with the non-Indigenous population was 2.1 (68.9 per 100,000 and 32.5 per 100,000).
