OVERVIEW
The Services Industries section in Central Office is to undertake a survey in respect of 1995-6 to assist the Australian Non-profit Data Project (ANDP) in measuring the contribution of Non-profit Institutions (NPI's).

The survey will be an official survey conducted under the Census & Statistics Act. The scope and coverage of the survey is Management Unit based and will involve a sample of those units flagged on the Business Register as being NPI's. The exception being 'Interest Groups' [ANZSIC Group 962] where a sample from all units will be taken [as it is expected that notionally all units will be NPI's].

PURPOSE
The information to be sought will enable estimates to be derived as to the contribution to economic activity and the structure and nature of specified Non-profit Institutions( NPI's) in particular industries. Essentially the data will be similar to the Economic Activity Survey dataset but with considerably less detail but some additional items (i.e. donations received).

SCOPE
The scope and coverage of the survey is Management Unit based and will involve a sample of those units flagged on the Business Register as being NPI's. The Not-for-Profit Organisations Survey draws its population from the ABS Business Register. It is a one-off economic survey which will not be linked to the Australian National Accounts nor is its planing/conduct within the ABS Economic strategy.

This publication contains details relating to the No of Management Units; persons employed; volunteers; wages & salaries; income items; selected expense items; total assets; total liabilities; membership.
