OVERVIEW
The Technical Services Collection included the Consulting Engineers, Architectural Services and Surveying Services. The consultant Engineering industry was surveyed in respect of 1987/88, 1992/93 and 1995/96. Architectural Services and Surveying Services were included in 92/93 and 87/88.
PURPOSE
To provide key measures on the performance of the Consultant Engineering, Architectural Services and Surveying Services industries. To identify the nature and structure of the industries in terms of employment, income, costs and their contribution to the Australian economy.
SCOPE
The scope of the survey was businesses as recorded on the ABS Business Register classified to the Australian and New Zealand Standard Industrial Classification (ANZSIC) classes 7823 - Consultant Engineering Services, 7821 - Architectural Services and 7822 - Surveying Services.

SIS presents statistics classified according to the Australian and New Zealand Standard Industrial Classification (ANZSIC) (1292.0). Each business is classified to a single industry. The industry allocated is based on an estimate of the primary income earning activity of the management unit irrespective of whether a range of activities or a single activity is undertaken by the business.

The survey of the Consultant Engineering industry for the 1995-1996 reference year was the third collection conducted by the ABS. The two previous being 1992-1993, and 1987-1988. Technical services in 1992-1993 and 1987-1988 also included Architectural Services and Surveying Services.
