VALUE OF WORK BUILDING DONE

  • The seasonally adjusted value of all building work done in the March quarter 2009 was estimated to be around $2.5 billion, almost 6% lower than in the previous quarter ($2.7 billion). This brought the value of work done back down to a level closer to that seen in the March quarter 2008.

  • The value of work done in the March quarter 2009 fell, in seasonally adjusted terms, for both new residential building (down 6.5%) and non-residential building (down 4.3%). This followed the highest value ever recorded for non-residential building in the previous quarter (over $1 billion).
  • Overall, the value of building work done has climbed steadily in recent years notwithstanding occasional small quarterly falls, primarily in residential building.
