The value of minerals produced from Tasmanian mines in 2003-04 was $545.5m, an increase of 15.2% on the previous year. The main reason for this growth was increased demand for base metals due to growth of China’s economy.
Production of metallic minerals accounted for 84.8% of production in 2003-04.
